Malahide Castle is located in North County Dublin. It was home to the Talbot family for almost 800 unbroken years and it is still the ‘spiritual home’ of the nearby village.
Growing up, the castle and grounds were my playground and still hold a special place in my heart. The roots are strong.

Molly Malone is a fictional Dublin character although she was probably based on a composite of various Dublin characters. and is the subject of Dublin’s unofficial anthem ‘Cockles & Mussels’. She was a fishmonger who died of a fever at a young age. Her statue is located on Suffolk Street and was designed by Jeanne Rynhart. It was first unveiled on June 13, 1988 as part of Dublin’s Millennium celebrations. June 13 was declared Molly Malone Day.

This painting is inspired by Irish woodlands. I Am drawn to woodlands and forests and always find myself captivated but the light as it finds its way through the foliage and labyrinth of branches and trunks. There is something magical about it and as the seasons change so does the nature of light. This winter scene is drawn from a regular walk through Malahide Castle grounds.

One of the first piece I did in this series was ‘Adventure Awaits of Benbulben in Sligo. This may be seen as the sister piece as Knocknarea is Sligo’s second most famous mountain. It is a special place. It is steeped in ancient tradition and at it’s summit it houses Queen Maeve’s Cairn. Perched on the edge of the Atlantic, when you stand on this mountain, you can’t but be filled with the sense of possibility.
