This is one of the earliest pieces I did in this series. Called ‘A place to hide’ it evokes a sense of warmth with autumnal palette and the house, nestled, almost hidden from view. Whilst it was inspired by countless scenes I have encountered it is not of a specific place. Perhaps it is the place I imagine I’d like to be to enjoy some quiet time.

The Irish pub is truly at the heart of Irish culture. The beer may flow but it’s the tide of stories, songs and slagging that makes an Irish pub such a unique place. It’s not hard to understand why there are Irish bars in every corner of the world.
This image is of the iconic Temple Bar pub in the heart of Dublin City.
It’s hard to find yourself alone when you’re in one, whether you want to or not!

I’ve always been drawn to earthy colours - ochre, orange, brown …. I’ve always loved autumn and the colours it brings. I find them incredibly peaceful.
I chose an autumnal palette for this piece in which I wanted to convey a sense of rest
and peace. It isn’t an actual place but rather a scene from drawn from the memory of many places I have been and experienced that deep sense of peace.

Bar 1661 opened its doors in 2019 and within a few short years (including being closed during the Covid pandemic) it was winner of Ireland's Bar of the Year 2022. Based in the heart of Dublin 7, it is named after the year Poitín as we know it was banned.
The ethos of owner Dave Mulligan is deeply rooted in the promotion of Irish Poitín through cocktail culture. Well worth a visit.

Storms conjure up notions of chaos, uncertainty and perhaps a sense of helplessness in the face of such powerful turmoil.
Their coming reminds us of our fragility but their passing brings clear skies and calm. We will all face challenges but these too shall pass, bringing hope and opportunity.

College Green is a three sided plaza in the centre of Dublin. On its northern side is the Bank of Ireland, which until 1800 was Ireland’s Parliament House. To its east stands Trinity College. To its south stands a series of 19th century buildings that were mostly banks. It has been used as an assembly point for political rallies, speeches and concerts including speeches by American Presidents Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama.

The Echlinville Distillery became the first new distillery in Northern Ireland for 125 years when the first spirt trickled from its stills in 2013. Since then, Echlinville has gone on to establish itself at the forefront of Ireland’s spirits renaissance and is home to award winning brands including Dunville’s Irish Whiskey – named Ireland’s Best Whiskey 2022.
Echlinville is a rare field-to-glass distillery. Their new make spirits are crafted from the ground up, on land they have farmed for generations. Every drop is trickle pot distilled to perfection from barley sown, grown, harvested and malted by hand on their family farm.
