I grew up listening to the Percy French song ‘Mountains of Mourne’. It’s an evocative song and when you visit the Mourne Mountains you can see why.
This painting tries to capture the natural beauty of the area which, one would understandably miss if living far away. The title for the piece comes from the Clifford T Ward song of the same name.

It doesn’t matter how long the winter lasts. It doesn’t matter how deep the snow may be. The sun will always rise and the snow will always melt.

Inspired by the Irish countryside at sunrise. Increasingly, I find my inspiration in the changing of light, particularly the early morning light as the sun starts to paint the world with beautiful rich colours. The title is a metaphorical though as we walk toward the light with our shadows cast behind.

Malahide Castle is located in North County Dublin. It was home to the Talbot family for almost 800 unbroken years and it is still the ‘spiritual home’ of the nearby village.
Growing up, the castle and grounds were my playground and still hold a special place in my heart. The roots are strong.

Molly Malone is a fictional Dublin character although she was probably based on a composite of various Dublin characters. and is the subject of Dublin’s unofficial anthem ‘Cockles & Mussels’. She was a fishmonger who died of a fever at a young age. Her statue is located on Suffolk Street and was designed by Jeanne Rynhart. It was first unveiled on June 13, 1988 as part of Dublin’s Millennium celebrations. June 13 was declared Molly Malone Day.

Designed by renowned architect James Gandon, O’Connell Bridge was built between 1791 and 1794. It is the only traffic bridge in Europe that is wider than it is long. No matter the number of bridges that adorn the River Liffey, O’Connell Bridge is still at the very heart of the city and its people.

This painting is inspired by Irish woodlands. I Am drawn to woodlands and forests and always find myself captivated but the light as it finds its way through the foliage and labyrinth of branches and trunks. There is something magical about it and as the seasons change so does the nature of light. This winter scene is drawn from a regular walk through Malahide Castle grounds.
