We lost Christy Dignam in June of 2023 after a long battle and what a loss he was. 

This piece is my tribute to Christy, a unique talent with a sublime voice. Everything about his voice is a testament to pain and overcoming adversity. Some of us succumb to damage and some of us use it to climb to a higher place. Thanks for climbing Christy.

College Green is a three sided plaza in the centre of Dublin. On its northern side is the Bank of Ireland, which until 1800 was Ireland’s Parliament House. To its east stands Trinity College. To its south stands a series of 19th century buildings that were mostly banks. It has been used as an assembly point for political rallies, speeches and concerts including speeches by American Presidents Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama.

Newgrange is an incredible place to visit. It connects us to a time in our history which is lost in mystery and is a testament to man's quest for understanding.

I haven't had the fortune to experience the illumination of the passage tomb at the Winter Solstice and can only try to imagine the beauty of the moment.

Doolin is world-famous for its traditional Irish music and holds annual festivals such as the Doolin Folk Festival. There are plenty of scenic hikes such as the Doolin cliff walk. There is the famous Doolin Cave, and the area has more than 100 archaeological sites from ancient times.

A trip to Ireland isn’t complete without a visit to this wonderful spot.

The Echlinville Distillery became the first new distillery in Northern Ireland for 125 years when the first spirt trickled from its stills in 2013. Since then, Echlinville has gone on to establish itself at the forefront of Ireland’s spirits renaissance and is home to award winning brands including Dunville’s Irish Whiskey – named Ireland’s Best Whiskey 2022.

Echlinville is a rare field-to-glass distillery. Their new make spirits are crafted from the ground up, on land they have farmed for generations. Every drop is trickle pot distilled to perfection from barley sown, grown, harvested and malted by hand on their family farm.

Located near the village of Emo in County Laois, Emo Court is a beautiful neo-classical mansion. It is one of the few houses to have been designed by renowned architect James Gandon. The gardens at Emo are 35 hectares of landscaped grounds with formal areas, woodland walks, statues and a 20-acre lake.

The Japanese have a word ‘komorebi’ which translates roughly to ‘light filtering the leaves of trees. It highlights a Japanese appreciation for nature and the subtle beauty found in everyday moments. It encourages a focus on finding moments of light and beauty even when passing through difficult times. 

As a subject it reminds me that life’s brightness is not constant but dynamic, shifting with time, perspective, and circumstance. It teaches us to appreciate the gentle, transient flashes of clarity and joy that break through the canopy of our everyday struggles.
